The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity – Shining Brighter, Reaching Further
The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity is the only charity that provides financial and emotional support to the construction community and their families who have suffered an injury, long term illness or just need some extra support.
They provide a 24 /7 Construction Industry Helpline which is the first point of contact to access a range of completely free and confidential support services including;
This year they saw an unprecedented number of cases presented to their Helpline and also a considerable increase for requests for helpline packs. There are now over 300,000 helpline cards in circulation within the construction workforce.
Last year, they supported 1524 families and spent £736,625 on charitable services. This year, they expect to support 2000 families and spend £1,300,000 on charitable services. The significant escalation in families needing financial and emotional support has taken the charity by surprise and has put pressure on their reserves.
With two construction workers taking their own life every single working day, and stress, depression, and anxiety accounting for a fifth of all work related illness, it’s vital that the industry pulls together to make a difference.
That is why the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity launched their Company Supporters Programme urging companies to pledge a regular annual donation. We’ve been supporting the charity for many years and we’re proud to announce that we’ve also pledged to become company supporter.
There’s also some exciting news about the launch of a new Construction Industry Helpline app. This free app will provide information, advice and guidance on a number of wellbeing topics including stress, anxiety and depression. It’s a preventative tool which will provide support at the initial stages of a situation so that the problem does not reach a life critical stage. The Construction Industry Helpline app will be available from December 7th form the App Store and Google Play.
