What is CIS?
Article by: EEBS Team

CIS is the abbreviated name for Construction Industry Scheme whereby your contractor will deduct your income tax from your gross wage prior to paying you.  It is their legal obligation to pay this to HMRC on your behalf.   Your contractor must verify you with HMRC as a CIS sub-contractor and must give you a statement of CIS deductions when you are paid.
